On such romantic reality TV shows as The Bachelor, Average Joe, A shot at Love, For Love or Money and other shows they demonstrate that all you have to do is show up on this TV show and you will find the love of your life. The sad thing about most of the romantic TV shows is that they get a cash prize for "winning" the person that they are competing for. Reality love shows tend to get competitors that are not into winning the competition for the girl or the guy but just to say that they won. I am an avid reality TV watcher and since I can remember watching the Bachelor(ette), i can remember just a couple of instances where a contestant wasn't into the guy or girl that they were competing for. I find it a little suspicious that hardly anybody has had problems really believing that this one person was their "soul mate." I agree with Cristina in the aspect that I do not believe a majority of what is presented throughout reality television but because it is shown on the TV screen it makes me feel sad at what our entertainment value as Americans has become. It makes me upset that we support and i even myself (though not as much as i use to) support these shows that treat humans and human emotions just as entertainment. What's even sadder is that a lot of these contestants are just there in order to get their 15 minuets of fame, they don't care if other contestants are kissing their potential mate and they act so wild in front of the camera so they can get attention from America and the particular person that "they are here for." I believe that Americans can be very influenced by TV and i truly believe that they believe what is going on on the show. Maybe not as much as in the beginning of reality TV but their is still a high percentage of people that believe everything that is happening on the program. Even in shows that present one couple that are dedicated to each other like Chaotic and Newlyweds are around just to show America "how crazy their lives are," I guess we can see how both of those marriages worked out for them. These kinds of shows destroyers people's integrity, feelings and reputations all for a little time on the TV. Batchelor says that women organizations were standing up against the bachelor protesting that "Getting married is something you win? It's extremely creepy. The true genius of The Bachelor is that it has taken a situation that is steeply cemented in reality and reduced it to yet another competition in which there are clearly defined winners and losers who can be cheered or booed, just like the home team in the sports world"(Batchelor 449) At this moment in time i believe that is what reality TV in love has come down to and not for its purpose of finding true love
