I disagree with Putman and Batchelor that women on television are more often than men the subjects of audience’s judgment and condemnation because most audiences do not judge by the sex of the character but on the role of the character. Most of the popular television shows like House, Scrubs, and The Office all have male and female character played both main and supportive role. The audience reaction to these shows reflects only on the character role and the plot of the story without regard to the sex of the character. The women are “good” in these shows because of their work ethics, how they handle difficult situation, their professionalism, and how they treat people around them. The women consider “bad” in that they betray their friend, have bad work ethic, and sell their body for money. There are “good” and “bad” men and they are judged in the same standard as the women. I agree with Xihua in that women don’t get special nor judge against because of their sex but with their ability. The show Survivor is a good example in that the person got to stay in the island is the one contribute most to the survivor of the tribe not because of the sex of that particular person.
