Blog #2
The media portrays the "ideal" body type in the perfect world. In the perfect world the women would be thin and a little curvy while the men were muscular and built. Is that really the ideal. I know that back in the old days it was considered very attractive for women to be a little more on chubby side. It was a sign of wealth. Only the poor lower class that couldnt afford to buy food all the time were skinny. What is ideal has completely done a 180 from what it used to be. Now if you have more than 5% body fat you need to go on a diet and lose weight. As for the men. In the old days there was no working out to build muscle. The upper class never spent too much time outside doing anything too hard. That was for the lower working class. The men lower class men that had to work hard and labor were outside. Having leaner bodies and pale skin as opposed to muscular bodies and tan skin was a sign of what class you belonged to. This also had done a complete 180. Now it is "ideal" to have a tan and be built. There must be something wrong with you if you are not. I think the media possibly contibutes to some medical problems to a certain degree. When girls see the movie stars and the models on tv and in magazines they are told that that is how you have to look to be beautiful. When a teenager does not look like that her self esteem will go down and she will do what she has to do to look like the movie stars even if it means starving herself and jeopardizing her health. Its not just the women though its also the men. When the movie stars and the male models are muscular and built the many want to be that way as well. In order to get that way the start experimenting with steroids and other possible suppliments to help build the muscle that they want. You dont have to look like the models to be beautiful/handsom.
