Respond to one of the following series of questions in no less than 150 words. Construct your own argument using the readings (cite), outside sources (optional), and personal experience as supporting evidence. Remember to respond to one of your peer's blogs unless you are the first poster (congrats) and to pose a question at the end.
1) How would you characterize the nature of the relationship between consumers and advertisers? How much agency do consumers really have? How do they participate in the cultural dialogues of the media?
2) To what extent does one's cultural capital, especially dress, accessories and grooming, determine one's social status and/or treatment? What cultural texts teach us to distinguish between "lower" class and "upper" class identity markers? Is this knowledge accessible to everyone?
3) What are the most important factors determining one's class? What are the barriers to social mobility? Do we live in a meritocracy? Is the myth of "the American Dream" just that- a myth?
